Adivasi Youth Dragged 500m By Car in Wayanad

Thiruvananthapur: In a disturbing incident, an Adivasi youth was dragged by a car for about 500 meters in Wayanad district the other day.
The police have filed a case of attempted murder against the occupants of the car, in connection with the incident that has caused outrage in the state. The police action was initiated after the video of the tribal youth, Mathan, being dragged by a car went viral on social media.
The Adivasi youth is currently receiving treatment at the Mananthavady hospital. SC/ST Welfare Minister K.R. Kelu, in whose constituency the incident occurred, has assured stringent action.
The Adivasi youth was targeted as he attempted to calm two groups of youths involved in an altercation. The police have stated that all the accused will be arrested soon.
Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi spoke to the district collector, seeking strong action against the perpetrators of the crime.
The youths, who had come to see the check dam, argued with the passengers of another car at Koodal Kadavu. The locals who tried to intervene were also attacked later.
Mathan was dragged by the youths along the tarred road for about half a kilometre, holding his hand close to the vehicle.
He was pushed on the road after the passengers of the car that followed, created a ruckus. The tribal youth sustained injuries on his hands, legs and the back of his body.
The police have found and seized the car in which adivasi youth Mathan was dragged in Wayanad. The accused in the violence have also been identified.
The vehicle is currently at Mananthavady station.
