Zero FIR In Bengaluru Against Uttarakhand BJP State President Over ‘Purification’ Ritual

BENGALURU: A zero First Information Report (FIR) has been registered by Vidhana Soudha police of Bengaluru against leaders and members of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Uttarakhand unit including its State Unit president Mahendra Bhatt over alleged “purification” ritual conducted a couple of days after president of All India Congress Committee (AICC) and Rajya Sabha member Mallikarjun Kharge took part in a rally on August 8 and the "purification' reportedly took on August 10.
The zero FIR was registered based on a complaint by former vice-chairman of Scheduled Tribes Department of AICC T.R. Ramappa. He stated he filed the complaint over alleged “insult” to Mallikarjun Kharge by conducting “purification” rituals by BJP leaders including State president of Uttarakhand and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt among others at Ramlila Ground in Haldwani, Nainital district of Uttarakhand.
“If this is the case with the AICC President and Rajya Sabha member, then, what is the fate of the last person in a village?” Ramappa questioned and stated “We have been subjected to discrimination for centuries. How long can such discrimination be tolerated?” Ramappa stated “It has to end (someday)” and made it clear he registered the complaint in the interest of the society.
He said he appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister of Home Amit Shah among others BJP central leaders to remove the accused person Mahendra Bhatt from the party and from Rajya Sabha. He warned to stage a dharna in the coming days.
Zero FIR is registered under sections of Protection of Civil Rights Act, 1955, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
