Youth held in Kerala on charge of molesting a woman in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: After an extensive investigation by the Bengaluru police, a 26-year-old Santosh Daniel was arrested in a remote village in Kozhikode of Kerala on charge of molesting a woman at Suddaguntepalya of BTM Layout in Bengaluru city. The alleged molesting of a woman took place on April 3 at around 1.55 am while the arrest of the accused person took place on Sunday.
The accused Santosh Daniel worked at a showroom in Bengaluru city and on the day of incident, he stalked two women walking in a narrow lane at Suddaguntepalya. The accused caught hold of one of the two women while the other tried to intervene.
After a few seconds of attempting to grab the woman, Santosh Daniel disappeared while cctv footage went viral on social media. The video clip circulated on social media was of about 17 seconds and poor quality of the cctv footage threw a challenge to the police to trace the accused.
Police scrutinized multiple cctv cameras to gather details of the accused and after a week-long manhunt across 3 States- Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, police tracked the accused in a remote village in Kerala. Meanwhile, police traced the woman and her friend and they made a request to the police not to reveal their identities and also not to be a part of the investigation.
The accused, after molesting a woman, fled to Hosur in Tamil Nadu and later to Salem before reaching Kozhikode in Kerala where he was arrested by the police. The accused has been booked under various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to stalking, assault and sexual harassment.
