Yellapur: Seven From Dharwad Killed As Cruiser Rams Lorry On NH-52
The Cruiser veered to the extreme right side of the road and collided head-on with a lorry in the opposite direction.
Karwar: Seven persons died and two others injured after a Cruiser vehicle carrying tourists from Dharwad collided head-on with a lorry on National Highway-52 near Aratibail in Yellapur taluk of Uttara Kannada district in the early hours of Thursday.
Police said the Cruiser, carrying nine persons including the driver, was on its way from Dharwad to Dharmasthala and Chikkamagaluru. The occupants were friends who had planned the trip together.
Preliminary report stated that around 1.30 am on Thursday when the vehicle was passing through Aratibail near Balagara Cross on NH-52, the driver of the Cruiser, Sanjeev (33) allegedly drove the vehicle at a high speed and in a rash and negligent manner.
The Cruiser veered to the extreme right side of the road and collided head-on with a lorry in the opposite direction.
The accident resulted in the death of six people including the driver. The deceased are identified as Akshay (26), Abhishek Eshwar (28), Abhishek (27), Basappa Devappa Kanakanavar (38), Manjunath (33), Sachin (26) and Sanjeev (33). The two injured are Shivaraj (22), and Channabasu (28). All are from Dharwad district.
Based on a complaint filed by Shivaraj, Yellapur police have registered a case under Sections 281, 125(B) and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, against the deceased driver.
