Yatnal Gives School Attendance A ‘Jai Shri Ram’ Twist
“Siddaramaiah says no to saffron shawl. Who gave him right. If hijab is allowed, then saffron shawls are also our right and our religious right”: Bijapur City MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal

VIJAYAPURA: Calling for students to wear saffron shawls and saffron tilak on their foreheads, respond to attendance calls with “Jai Shri Ram” and greet teachers the same way, Bijapur City MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal on Saturday opposed the state government’s decision to allow hijab in educational institutions while not permitting saffron shawls on campuses.
Addressing reporters, Yatnal questioned the government’s authority to prohibit saffron shawls if hijab was being allowed in schools and colleges.
“Siddaramaiah says no to saffron shawl. Who gave him right. If hijab is allowed, then saffron shawls are also our right and our religious right,” he said.
The MLA announced that from the reopening of schools in June, a campaign would be launched from Vijayapura to distribute saffron shawls to students.
“We will start distribution of saffron shawls from Vijayapura. I am giving a call to Hindus across Karnataka to send their children to schools wearing saffron shawls and saffron tilak. Let us see who opposes it and also see if the students will not be allowed inside the campuses,” he said.
Yatnal further said students should respond with “Jai Shri Ram” during attendance instead of saying “Yes Sir” and also greet teachers with the same slogan.
“If teacher calls Mr X then ‘Jai Sri Ram,’ will be the reply instead of ‘Yes Sir.’ Also, if students see their teachers, then greet the teacher with 'Jai Sri Ram,' he said in his usual style.
