Woman Booked For Duping Belthangady Businessman Of Rs 87.22 Lakh

Mangaluru: Police have registered a cheating case after a Belthangady businessman complained that a woman he met through a matrimonial app duped him of Rs 87.22 lakh.

According to the complaint, the businessman came into contact with a 35 year old woman through a matrimonial application in May 2024. The two remained in touch over the phone, during which she allegedly gained his confidence.

Police said that between September 26, 2024, and January 20, 2025, the woman allegedly persuaded the complainant to transfer money to different bank accounts on various pretexts. Believing her claims, he transferred a total of Rs 87,22,710 in multiple transactions.

The complainant later realised he had been cheated after the woman allegedly became unreachable and failed to return the money.

Based on his complaint, the Belthangady Police have registered a case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
