Vijayapura: Amid outrage over a viral audio clip allegedly threatening BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, Hindu community leaders in Vijayapura have demanded a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe, calling the content “a dangerous conspiracy to disrupt communal harmony.” Muslim leaders, meanwhile, have condemned the content and demanded legal action against those behind the audio—and against Yatnal for his provocative remarks.

While an audio clip circulated widely on Friday, a video containing similar inflammatory remarks, including a reference to 'Sar tan se juda', also surfaced on social media. However, following widespread condemnation, the video was taken down.
“The audio was reportedly recorded by a participant in a recent meeting held under the banner of the Muslim Muthaida Council (MMC),” said former BJP City Mandal president Shankar Hugara in a joint press statement with Corporators Kiran Patil, Rajashekar Kuriyavar, Premanand Biradar, Dadasaheb Bagayat, and Santosh Patil.
“In the clip, the speaker claims that it was decided during the meeting to organise a massive protest on April 15, with one lakh people gathering at Ambedkar Circle and marching to Yatnal’s residence. The speaker also refers to April 15 as Yatnal’s ‘final day.’ This is a serious issue. We urge the NIA to investigate and uncover the truth,” the leaders stated.
They alleged that certain individuals who attended the meeting are now trying to deflect blame by calling press conferences and claiming the audio is fake. “One of the key participants, a controversial lawyer named Khadri—who has reportedly been externed in the past for involvement in communal violence and SC/ST-related offences—has admitted to being part of the meeting and is a member of MMC,” they alleged.
The leaders slammed attempts to portray the clip as a fabrication by Yatnal’s supporters. “This is clearly an attempt to mislead the public and derail the investigation. It is ridiculous to see individuals with histories of Waqf property encroachments and criminal backgrounds now holding press conferences,” they added.
They warned that those responsible for provoking communal unrest must be held accountable. “The conspiracy to disrupt communal harmony is evident. The state government must act decisively and expose the anti-social elements behind this,” they said.
They further demanded that individuals involved in circulating inflammatory content be externed from the region and urged the government to cancel lawyer Khadri’s appointment as a government advocate, citing his past record.
“Peace in society cannot be compromised. The Home Minister and the district in-charge minister must take immediate action,” they urged.
Meanwhile, Muslim leaders have strongly condemned the audio and video, distancing themselves from the content and demanding action against the real culprits. “Miscreants have circulated these messages on social media. We urge officials to act against those responsible—and also against MLA Yatnal for making inflammatory statements,” said Abdul Hameed Mushrif.
“There are miscreants in the BJP. They could have been behind these messages,” he alleged.
