Vijayendra Demands Rs 50 Thousand Per Acre Compensation For Farmers Affected By Severe Drought
Vijayendra claimed that despite drought-like conditions prevailing in several districts, Karnataka was yet to have a full-fledged Council of Ministers.

Bidar: Calling the rainfall deficit in North Karnataka an emerging crisis, BJP state president BY Vijayendra on Monday demanded Rs 50,000 per acre as compensation for affected farmers while accusing the Congress government of focusing on publicity instead of addressing their plight.
Addressing reporters in Bidar, Vijayendra said the situation was particularly alarming in the Kalyana Karnataka region, where sowing had not taken place in over 30 lakh hectares because of inadequate rainfall.
“The showers received last week had raised hopes among farmers, but crops such as red gram, black gram and sunflower had failed to germinate due to insufficient rainfall. The government must respond to the distress of farmers immediately instead of waiting for the situation to worsen," he said, urging the state to announce compensation without delay.
Vijayendra claimed that despite drought-like conditions prevailing in several districts, Karnataka was yet to have a full-fledged Council of Ministers. Taking a swipe at the Congress, he alleged that party leaders were more preoccupied with lobbying for ministerial berths than addressing farmers' concerns.
He also criticised Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, alleging that the government was focusing more on publicity than addressing farmers' concerns.
Referring to the Chief Minister's recent visit to Bidar and Basavakalyan, Vijayendra remarked that "no one can match him in marketing", alleging that the visit was reduced to a photo opportunity rather than addressing the region's pressing issues.
He also accused the government of neglecting North Karnataka, saying irrigation and other long-pending issues in the region deserved the same priority being given to infrastructure projects in Bengaluru.
