Vijay Puts Off Bengaluru Trip, Shivakumar Welcomes Cordial Gesture

BENGALURU: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has decided to defer his visit to Bengaluru, heeding to the appeal by his Karnataka counterpart D.K. Shivakumar.
Expressing happiness over his Tamil Nadu counterpart's decision to postpone his visit, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Sunday said that “the gesture would help maintain a cordial atmosphere prevail in both the States.”
Earlier, Joseph Vijay had expressed his willingness to visit Karnataka for a meeting with D.K. Shivakumar on water sharing between the two States and the visit of Vijay was to happen on August 3. Along with Vijay, some 6 Ministers from Tamil Nadu were to arrive in Bengaluru.
By the time, Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee directed Karnataka to release 3,500 cusecs to Tamil Nadu from its reservoirs-Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) and Kabini. Following the decision, protests erupted in Mandya in particular over water release to Tamil Nadu and protesters stormed theatres to halt release of Vijay starrer “Jana Nayagan” and the release of the Tamil movie was halted in a couple of theatres in Mandya and Tamil Nadu.
Shivakumar, considering the atmosphere was not favourable for the visit to Vijay in Karnataka made an appeal to Vijay to reschedule his visit and the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister accepted it.
The Chief Minister said “I only requested Vijay that we meet in a better and more cordial atmosphere because I don’t want anyone shouting against my friends. We should respect each other. We have to live together and work together. Ultimately, India is one.”
