Union Minister Terms Karnataka CM’s Move “A Wicked” One

Political goodwill gesture turns into a war of words between Karnataka leaders

Bengaluru: Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s goodwill measure of visiting the residences of former Chief Ministers who served the State irrespective of their party affiliations drew criticism from the Union Minister of Large Scale Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy, who termed Shivakumar’s move as “Ati vinayam dhoortha lakshanam (Too much humbleness is a trait of a wicked person).”

Earlier, Chief Minister Shivakumar expressed his willingness to meet Kumaraswamy and seek his suggestions in the interest of the State, provided the Union Minister fixed an appointment.

Speaking to reporters in Mandya, Kumaraswamy, Lok Sabha member representing Mandya parliamentary seat, said “What suggestion do I have to offer Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar?”

Pointing to Shivakumar’s questioning of his contribution as Chief Minister to the State, Kumaraswamy said “Shivakumar wanted to know my contributions as Chief Minister twice. He needs proof of my contributions.”

“I have not made any contributions. What suggestions can I offer to the Chief Minister,” Kumaraswamy said and stated “Shivakumar wishes for a photograph with me and it has to be displayed in newspapers (that’s all).”

After assuming charge as Chief Minister, Shivakumar took blessings of former Prime Minister H.D. Devegowda, father of H.D. Kumaraswamy, in Bengaluru a couple of days back.

Shivakumar met Bharatiya Janata Party CMs D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Jagadeesh Shettar, former Congress CM Veerappa Moily, former Prime Minister H.D. Devegowda of Janata Dal Secular among other leaders.
