Kalaburagi: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday came down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging that he failed to fulfill his pre-election promise of creating two crore jobs annually.
“By now, 20 crore jobs should have been created in the last ten years. But not even 20 lakh jobs have been provided. The Prime Minister misled the youth with false promises,” he alleged while speaking after inaugurating the Kalyana Karnataka Udyoga Mela (Job Fair) and distributing appointment letters to young jobseekers on Wednesday.
"Unemployment is one of the biggest problems in the country today, and the lack of a proper response from the Union Government is only worsening the situation with each passing day," he said.
In contrast, he asserted that the Karnataka government is taking serious measures to tackle unemployment through the implementation of the "Yuva Nidhi" scheme and by equipping the youth with skill-based training.
The Chief Minister said the Karnataka government has been consistently organising job fairs to address unemployment. “While the national unemployment rate is 18.9 percent, Karnataka’s is only 2.5 percent,” he said. “We have fulfilled all five of our guarantee schemes, including the Yuva Nidhi programme, which not only provides unemployment allowance but also skill training and job placement.”
Pointing to the need for investment-led job creation, he said, “More investments at the state and central level will naturally lead to more employment. However, the Central government continues to neglect the youth. It is our government that is working to provide jobs and secure the future of young people.”
He added that instructions have been given to Minister Dr. Sharanprakash Patil to focus on market-driven skill development to create more employment opportunities. “Even if some candidates attending today’s mela don’t secure jobs immediately, they should not lose hope. We will ensure that all registered candidates are provided employment. We are committed to equipping them with the necessary skills to succeed,” he assured.
He further stated that regional job fairs were being organized to bring together employers and job seekers on a common platform, thereby facilitating direct recruitment.
Earlier speaking to reporters Siddaramaiah reaffirmed that organizing job fairs to provide employment opportunities to the youth is a firm commitment of his government.
“A divisional-level job fair has been organized today in Kalaburagi. Similar job fairs are also being held in Mysuru and Hubballi-Dharwad,” he said.
He added that the Yuvanidhi scheme has been implemented with the objective of addressing unemployment, and the government is actively working to create job opportunities for the youth.
