Two Youths Arrested for Assaulting Policemen on Night Duty in Mangaluru
The accused have been identified as Sachin KR (24) from Hathyadka village near Kokkada in Belthangady taluk and Chandan (24) from Nelyadi in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.
Mangaluru: City police have arrested two youths in connection with the assault on police constables during night patrol duty within the Urva police station limits earlier this week.
The accused have been identified as Sachin KR (24) from Hathyadka village near Kokkada in Belthangady taluk and Chandan (24) from Nelyadi in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district. The duo had fled to Kerala after the incident but were traced and arrested by the City Crime Branch (CCB) team from the Kanhangad area on May 26.
According to police, the incident occurred around 2.10 am on May 24 near Narayanaguru Community Hall Road at Kodikal. Two youths riding a red electric scooter allegedly attacked police personnel who were on night beat duty.
Police said the pillion rider assaulted a constable with a piece of cement sheet, causing head injuries, while another constable sustained a leg fracture in the attack.
A case has been registered at Urva police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges of attempt to murder and obstructing a public servant from discharging duty.
Investigators said the accused were staying in a rented house at Phalguni Nagar in the Ashoknagar area of Mangaluru. Sachin was working as a driver at a sweets factory, while Chandan was employed as a technician at a showroom.
Police said the accused allegedly attacked the personnel after being stopped and questioned while roaming late at night. The electric scooter used in the offence has been seized.
