Two Die Slipping Into Sewage Pumping Well, Search On

BENGALURU: An enquiry has been ordered into the death of two workers identified as Brijesh and Akhilesh allegedly by slipping into 40 foot Sewage Pumping Wet Well at Belagere near Varthur of Bengaluru belonging to Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) on Thursday evening and efforts are on to trace the workers who are feared dead.
A Committee has been formed under Chief Engineer K.N. Rajeev, Additional Chief Engineers-K.S. Renukumar and D.S. Vinutha. The Committee has been asked to submit their report to BWSSB Chairperson Dr Manjula before Saturday 12 pm.
A statement by BWSSB on Friday stated search operations were hit by toxic build up in the Pumping Well and strong current in it. Works have been initiated to flush out toxic gas build up in the Pumping Well and supply adequate amounts of oxygen into it for the searching teams of Fire and Emergency Services and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel to begin searching for missing workers who are feared dead.
On Thursday evening at around 6 pm, a BWSSB statement said three workers slipped into the Pumping Well and one of them was rescued. The rescue worker has been undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Based on the enquiry report, BWSSB statement stated to initiate strict action against the personnel/officers which led to the death of two workers. Officials of BWSSB have been stationed at the accident spot for assistance to the searching teams of Fire and Emergency Services and NDRF.
