Swift Action By Bhatkal Police Leads To Arrest Of Burglary Accused

Karwar: Bhatkal Town police have arrested two persons within eight hours of registering a house burglary case and recovered part of the stolen gold ornaments and cash from them, police said on Friday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammed Rahil and Naushad, both residents of Ganeshnagar in Puravarga area of Bhatkal.
According to police, the burglary took place at a house in Puravarga between the evening of May 18 and the morning of May 20. The accused allegedly broke open the bedroom lock of the house and decamped with 24 grams of gold ornaments worth around Rs 3.12 lakh and cash of Rs 37,000 kept inside a cupboard.
A case was registered at Bhatkal Town police station under Sections 331(3), 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Following directions from senior officers, a special police team was formed to trace the accused. Acting on specific information, police detained the two accused near Puravarga on May 20 and later arrested them after interrogation.
Police said the accused confessed to their involvement in the theft during questioning.
The police recovered 17 grams of gold ornaments worth about Rs 2.21 lakh and cash amounting to Rs 22,860 from the accused.
The accused were produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
