Strict Action Against Officials Negligent In Drought Management : CM DK Shivakumar

CM assured the government's priority was to ensure transparent and inclusive governance while delivering development and public services to the last person.

Kalaburagi : Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday warned officials against negligence in handling the drought situation in Karnataka, saying strict action would be taken against those who fail to discharge their responsibilities in a people-oriented manner.

Addressing the inaugural session of the Kalaburagi Divisional-level Progress Review Meeting, the first such review for the North Karnataka region by his government, Shivakumar said the government's priority was to ensure transparent and inclusive governance while delivering development and public services to the last person.

"I am not prepared to listen to excuses when it comes to development. What matters to me are results. If you work efficiently, you will be repaying the debt you owe to the people. But if you fail to work in the public interest, action against you will become inevitable,” he said.

The Chief Minister also directed officials to ensure there was no shortage of fertilisers and that tank-filling programmes were implemented without delay. He said all development works initiated under the Siddaramaiah-led government would continue, with greater emphasis on transparency, efficiency and people-centric governance.

The Chief Minister said he chose Basavakalyan as the starting point of his first North Karnataka tour as he believes in Basavanna's ideals of equality and social justice. "Equality, social justice and development must progress together," he said.
