Some Minister Continue To Fight For Their Favourite Portfolios, Look To Central Leaders To Sort It Out

BENGALURU: Displeasure in cabinet ministers over portfolio allocation refuses to die and unhappy ministers turn their attention to central leaders to get their demands of handling their favourite portfolios conceded. The new cabinet came into existence under Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar a week back and yet Minister Krishna Byre Gowda given Bengaluru Development portfolio has not taken charge of the ministry hoping to get Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) and Bengaluru Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA).
While Minister Krishna Byre Gowda is reportedly unhappy over “partial” Bengaluru Development portfolio without prominent departments such as Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) and Bengaluru Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA). Both the departments are with Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar who served as Bengaluru Development minister under Siddaramaiah.

Gowda feels that BDA and BMRDA handle key projects related to Bengaluru city and both the departments out of his jurisdiction would do no good to handle projects.
A week back 13 new cabinet ministers were sworn-in leading to discontent among some of the Ministers and disgruntled Ministers especially seniors look to central leaders in New Delhi to get their demands. First to stage a revolt unhappy over portfolio allocation was senior Congress MLA Ramalinga Reddy was sworn-in as a cabinet minister but was given Water Resources.
Unhappy over Water Resources and demanding Bengaluru Development portfolio, Reddy resigned as a Minister later withdrew it on the persuasion of party leaders such as Karnataka incharge of the party affairs Randeep Singh Surjewala, former Chief Ministers Siddaramaiah and Veerappa Moily among others.
Joining the list of unhappy ministers in Shivakumar cabinet on Tuesday was Minister of Food and Civil Supplies K.H. Muniyappa. He said “My supporters are demanding a higher position in the Government such as elevation as a Deputy Chief Minister. I’m a disciplined soldier of the party and only appeal to the high command to decide on it.” Muniyappa stated he has assumed charge of his ministry.
Initially, Minister Byrathi Suresh was reportedly unhappy over the allocation of the Transport ministry to him. Later, he accepted the portfolio and assumed charge of ministry. Previously, Byrathi Suresh handled the Urban Development ministry under Siddaramaiah.
