Six Killed, Two Children Critical In Car-Bus Collision In Yadgir
The bus was from Bengaluru to Kalaburagi and the car was from Venugopalaswami Temple in Surpur to Sirwar in Raichur.
Yadgir : Six persons were killed and two children critically injured in a head-on collision between a private bus and a car on National Highway 151A near Shantapur Cross in Shorapur taluk of Yadgir district on Thursday morning. The victims are from Sirwar in Raichur.
The impact of the collision was so severe that both vehicles caught fire.
The bus was from Bengaluru to Kalaburagi and the car was from Venugopalaswami Temple in Surpur to Sirwar in Raichur.
According to police, eight people from Sirwar were travelling in the car. Of them, six died on the spot, while two children sustained critical injuries and were shifted to the Yadgir Institute of Medical Sciences (YIMS) for treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Krishna Nayak (52), his wife Ananthakala (45), Sharanappa (36), his wife Nisarga (30), Siddhartha (3), son of Sharanappa, and Shashikala (30).
The injured children are Advika (5) and Srinidhi (1.5), both daughters of Sharanappa, who are stated to be in a critical condition.
Police said all 20 passengers travelling in the bus escaped unhurt.
Preliminary investigation and eyewitness accounts suggest that a tyre burst in the car may have caused the driver to lose control, leading to the accident. However, the exact cause is yet to be ascertained.
Senior officials, including the Deputy Inspector General of Police, rushed to the spot, and further investigation is in progress.
