SIT Gets Two More Cases to Probe in Dharmasthala

Skeletal remains and a 20-year-old case added to SIT's secret burial investigation

Mangaluru: The Karnataka Director General has handed over two more cases to the special investigation team (SIT), which is investigating the alleged secret burials in Dharmasthala.

The first case is an unnatural death report (UDR) registered at the Dharmasthala police station on August 1, following the recovery of human skeletal remains from Point No. 6 on July 31. This spot is one of the 13 sites identified by a former sanitation worker. The remains, suspected to be those of a male, were sent to forensic experts for examination.

The SIT investigation is expected to determine whether the bones belong to a single individual or more, whether the time of death corresponded with the whistleblower’s claims, estimate the age of the deceased, and establish whether the death was previously documented or buried secretly without official sanction.

The second case referred to the SIT pertains to a complaint filed on August 4 by social activist Jayant, who alleged that a police officer was involved in the illegal burial of a minor girl in a forest near Dharmasthala over 20 years ago. According to Jayant, the officer suppressed the matter without filing a case or informing the authorities.Skeletal remains and a 20-year-old case added to SIT's secret burial investigation
