Siddarmaiah Skipped Swearing-in Ceremony Over A Minor Incident, Said Newly-sworn Minister

BENGALURU: Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reportedly was unhappy over inclusion of MLC Gayathri Shantegowda to be made a Minister in the cabinet expansion held on Monday and he refrained from attending the swearing-in ceremony held at Lok Bhavan. However, her name was dropped later.
Disclosing the reason behind Siddaramaiah not attending the swearing-in ceremony, newly sworn-in Minister Shivalinge Gowda told reporters in Bengaluru on Tuesday Siddaramaiah was unhappy over a “minor” incident which made skip the event at Lok Bhavan, otherwise he is a happy man.
Continuing, he said, Siddaramaiah was against MLC Gayathri Shantegowda considering that his son Dr Yathindra, also an MLC, is a Minister in D.K. Shivakumar cabinet. Both Shantegowda and Yathindra belong to Kuruba community and Siddaramaiah felt that it would not be correct to make two MLCs that too from the same community Ministers.
The newly sworn-in Minister Shivalinge Gowda stated Siddaramaiah recommended MLAs have been made Ministers. It is said Siddaramaiah recommended Byadgi MLA Basavaraj Shivannanavar. But, the recommendation did not yield a positive result. In place of 20 MLAs listed to be sworn-in as Ministers, 19 MLAs took oath as Ministers in D.K. Shivakumar ministry.
