Siddaramaiah's 'Politics Not Permanent' Comment Leads to Speculation

Though the context of the conversation is not clear, it is being linked with CM change talks in the state


BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would meet central party leaders in New Delhi on December 8, reportedly for a discussion ona power-sharing agreement. The Chief Minister’s visit to New Delhi was disclosed to media persons by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to his party MLA Belur Gopalakrishna in a chat in Vidhana Soudha on Tuesday.

The meeting by Siddaramaiah with Congress central leaders assumes significance since Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar have left it to the central leaders to decide on power-sharing. Shivakumar reportedly mounted pressure on central leaders to initiate steps for ca hange of leadership, while Siddaramaiah exuded confidence to complete a full term in office, leading to a power tussle.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was caught on camera saying “Come what may” in a chat with Belur Gopalakrishna, Maddur Congress MLA Kadalur Udaygowda, among others in Vidhana Soudha. The Chief Minister was heard saying to his party MLAs, “Politics is not permanent.”

Over his chat with Siddaramaiah, Belur Gopalakrishna said he had a casual meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and during the course of his discussion, Siddaramaiah disclosed his meeting with Congress central leaders and after which things will be clear on power-sharing.

The mutual breakfast meetings between Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar have shut the mouths of leaders of the opposition, while Congress MLAs and leaders have been sent a message of unity, said Gopalakrishna. He said that the Chief Minister was in a jovial mood during the discussion.

However, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, after hosting a breakfast meeting with Siddaramaiah at his residence in Sadashivanagar of Bengaluru city, said that they "have decided to go to Delhi on December 8, hold a meeting and come back the same evening. I will meet Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi if they ask me to.”

“We had a discussion on the government and the party as well,” said Shivakumar at the breakfast meeting with Siddaramaiah.

He stated his visit to Delhi is to hold an all-party meeting of Lok Sabha members from Karnataka to raise their voice on the floor of the Parliament over permission for Mekedatu balancing reservoir construction, MSP for maize and sugarcane, grants for rural development, urban development and irrigation projects.
