Belagavi: Adding to the patriotic atmosphere in Belagavi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday unveiled the world's second-largest Khadi national flag at the western gate of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha by symbolically turning the charkha.
The event comes soon after the “Gandhi Bharat” programme, adding to the patriotic fervour in Belagavi, a city associated with Mahatma Gandhi’s historic Congress session. The massive Khadi flag 75 ft by 55 ft Tricolour is expected to inspire national pride among visitors.
Siddaramaiah felicitated Vinod Kumar Revappa Bommanavar of Kamalapur of Kalaburagi district, who was involved in the flag preparation. The Chief Minister also congratulated Assembly Speaker UT Khader and his team for executing the project.
“Khadi is not just fabric; it is a symbol of the nation’s identity. The national flag made of Khadi is not just cloth it is a symbol of India’s pride and self-respect. We must honour and proudly uphold our national flag. Every citizen should nurture patriotism. It is important to remember those who sacrificed and fought for the nation,” Siddaramiah said.
“Under Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership, the freedom struggle gained momentum. Gandhi had presided over the Congress session held in Belagavi. Since it has been 100 years since that historic event, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi was installed near Suvarna Soudha last year,” he stated.
“It has been 79 years since Independence. We must introspect on how much brotherhood, patriotism, and human values we have achieved as a society. Without these, it is not possible to live as true human beings. These values must grow in every student and youth,” he said.
