Siddaramaiah To Reach A Milestone As Longest Serving CM Of Karnataka

A seasoned politician, Siddaramaiah was in Lok Dal before joining Janata Party and later he was in Janata Dal. After JD, split into Janata Dal Secular and Janata Dal United, Siddaramaiah was with JDS. After his expulsion from JDS in 2006, Siddaramaiah joined the Congress party.

BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday would complete 7 years and 240 days as Chief Minister in two terms to reach a milestone to take credit as the longest serving Chief Minister by surpassing 7 years and 239 days served in the post by late Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs. Both, D. Devaraj Urs and Siddaramaiah belong to Mysuru district.

Devaraj Urs, represented Hunsur Assembly seat, served as Chief Minister in two terms from 20/3/1972 to 31/12/1977 and again from 28/2/1978 to 7/1/1980. Siddaramaiah was the Chief Minister from 13/5/2013 to 15/5/2018 to complete a full term in office and he again took oath in 2023 to serve as CM till date. He represents Varuna Assembly seat in Mysuru.

Over him reaching a milestone, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told reporters in Mysuru on Monday, attributed it to the blessings of voters made it possible and recalled “I entered politics by becoming a member of Taluk Board and had not expected to serve as a Minister on a couple of occasions before ascending the post of Chief Minister (twice).”

“Have won 8 of the 13 elections contested (including a Parliamentary election),” Siddaramaiah stated and pointed to “I and D. Devaraj Urs hail from Mysuru.”

Continuing on his feat, Siddaramaiah said “Records are meant to be broken” and stated “One day even my record as longest serving Chief Minister will fall.”

“A leader might emerge on the scene to present more budgets,” Siddaramaiah said, who is on the verge of presenting his 17th budget in his career.

To make the milestone reached by Siddaramaiah momentous, his supporters are planning a mage convention in coming days.

On the milestone of Siddaramaiah, Janata Dal Secular State president and Union Minister of Large Scale Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy said "From delivering high quality governance in the country, Karnataka's governance has fallen considerably (under CM Siddaramaiah)."

Kumaraswamy said "There is no match between Devaraj Urs and Siddaramaiah when it comes to governance."
