Siddaramaiah completed 7 years and 240 days as Chief Minister to become the longest serving Chief Minister surpassing 7 years and 239 days served by Devaraj Urs: Reports

BENGALURU: It was a red-letter day on Tuesday for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who achieved a feat of being the longest serving Chief Minister and over the feat achieved by him, Siddaramaiah termed surpassing late Chief Minister Devaraj Urs record of longest serving Chief Minister “a mere coincidence.”
Siddaramaiah completed 7 years and 240 days as Chief Minister to become the longest serving Chief Minister surpassing 7 years and 239 days served by Devaraj Urs.
Both Siddaramaiah and Devaraj Urs have certain things in common as they hail from Mysuru district. Siddaramaiah (2013-18 and 2023 till date) and Devaraj Urs (1972-77 and 1978-1980) served as Chief Ministers for two terms and both become from the Congress party. Devaraj Urs won from Hunsur Assembly seat in Mysuru and Siddaramaiah currently represents Varuna Assembly seat.
Interacting with media persons in Mysuru city, Siddaramaiah expressed satisfaction over his service rendered to the people being an elected representative over a long period of time and in reply to a question on his continuance as Chief Minister for the remaining term, he expressed confidence that he would continue in the post subjected to the decision of the high command.
Over his lengthy political life, Siddaramaiah said “I wished to become a MLA but opportunities came my way and served as an MLA and Minister on a couple of occasions. I served as Deputy Chief Minister later to become a Leader of Opposition and ascended to the post of Chief Minister.”
He said “Social inequality still exists in the society” and he assured to continue his struggle for social justice and serve the people.
