Shivamogga Prison Convict Swallowed Mobile Phone Removed After A Surgery

The convicted person has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and fine by District Principal and Sessions Court, Shivamogga and was moved to the Prison on June 15.

BENGALURU: A weird incident of a convict swallowing a mobile phone measuring 1 inch in width and 3 inch length in Shivamogga Central Prison was reported and later the swallowed object was removed from the person after a surgery. The removed mobile phone from the convict was handed over to Prison officials by doctors on July 8.

However, the reason for the convict to swallow a mobile phone is yet to be known by the Prison officials. Prison Chief Superintendent Dr P. Ranganath registered a complaint with the Tunga Police in Shivamogga to investigate “How the convict managed to get access to a mobile inside the Prison?”

Chief Superintendent of Shivamogga Central Prison Dr P. Ranganath told Deccan Chronicle initially the convict identified as Daulat Yaane (30) complained to the Prison personnel that he swallowed a stone on June 24 and the stone had lodged inside his stomach. The convict was referred to McGann Hospital in Shivamogga city where he underwent x-ray to detect what was inside his stomach.

Ranganath said at first the x-ray could not detect the object lodged inside his stomach and later the convict was subjected to another round of x-ray wherein it was found that a foreign object was stuck in the stomach.

After completing formalities for the convict to undergo a surgery, Ranganath said the convict underwent a surgery and the surgery revealed the stuck foreign object was nothing but a mobile phone and added “He is tightlipped on what made him swallow a mobile phone.”

“Even when the foreign object was stuck in the stomach, the convict had food without hassle and was doing fine,” said the Chief Superintendent of the Prison.

The convicted person has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and fine by District Principal and Sessions Court, Shivamogga and was moved to the Prison on June 15.
