Seven Arrested After Doctor Assaulted At Bidar District Hospital

BIDAR: A doctor on duty at the casualty ward at the Bidar District Government Hospital was allegedly assaulted and threatened by a group of men inside the casualty ward in the early hours of Friday.
Police arrested seven people in connection with the incident.
According to police, the incident took place post-midnight, around 12.30 am, when Dr Tukaram was treating Vijay Singh, a resident of Benakanalli village, who had reportedly sustained injuries after falling from a motorcycle.
During treatment, the accused- a group of people claiming to be relatives of the injured man, allegedly entered the casualty ward and got into a quarrel with the doctor, accusing him of not treating the patient properly.
They allegedly abused the doctor in filthy language, threatened to kill him if anything happened to the patient, and physically assaulted him inside the hospital premises.
The arrested accused have been identified as Aditya Tajalapur, Vinod Chambol, Govind Benakanalli, Anil Benakanalli, Mahadev Benakanalli, Balaji Tajalapur and Pavan Chambol.
Based on the complaint, New Town police in Bidar registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges related to assault, criminal intimidation, and attempt to murder.
Acting on directions from Bidar Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gunti, a special police team led by DySP Dood Peer Husensab Mulla traced and arrested all the accused. They were later produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
Police warned that strict action would be taken against anyone assaulting or threatening doctors and hospital staff while they are discharging their duties.
Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister and Bidar district in-charge Eshwar B Khandre condemned the incident, stating that such acts are unacceptable.
He said nobody has the right to take the law into their own hands and added that incidents of this nature weaken the morale and confidence of doctors.
Khandre directed officials to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident and take strict action against those found guilty. He also instructed the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police to strengthen security arrangements at the district hospital.
