DG of Prisons Alok Kumar stated “Appreciate the good work done by our team in the past 72-hours” and said “Small steps, long way to go.”
Alok Kumar said 4 inmates involved in violence at Karwar District Prison transferred to other Prisons. It may be recalled here inmates identified as Mohammed Abdul Fayan and Kaushik Nihal, belonging to Mangaluru, allegedly attacked Karwar Prison jailer Kallappa Gasti and 3 other personnel attached to the Prison and beat them mercilessly inside the Prison a week back.
The inmates-Mohammed Abdul Fayan and Kaushik Nihal were transferred to Karwar Prison from Mangaluru a couple of months back. The attack on Jailer Gasti and his staff allegedly took place over strict measures initiated at the Prison such as thorough check on all parcels/food items while use of mobile phones and contraband items inside the Prison were brought under control.
Fayan and Nihal were reportedly unhappy over the strict measures in place and took on the jailer and other staff leading to assault.
