SC Disposes Of Bail Plea By Actor Darshan

BENGALURU: Supreme Court on Friday disposed of a petition filed by under trial prisoner actor Darshan seeking bail over cancellation of bail by the top Court in 2025 and the top Court would consider his bail plea after the examination of 60 key witnesses in the alleged murder of Renukaswamy.
Darshan Thoogudeepa is lodged in Central Prison, Bengaluru on murder charge of Renukaswamy, a resident of Chitradurga, in June 2024.
While disposing of the bail plea by the actor, the Supreme Court wanted the Special Court, Bengaluru to take up the trial on a day-to-day basis and complete the examination of 60 witnesses within a year before the Court probably considers the bail plea of the actor.
The petitioner stated basic amenities have not been provided to him in the Central Prison, Bengaluru for the last 6 months and over providing basic amenities, the Supreme Court said basic amenities should be provided to the under-trial prisoner.
It may be recalled Darshan has been arrested and lodged in Prison on charge of alleged murder of Renukaswamy. The actor is accused of murdering Renukaswamy after he is alleged to have sent several lewd messages to Pavithra Gowda, girlfriend of the actor, over her mobile phone.
Enraged over lewd messages, the actor is alleged to have directed his associates to bring Renukaswamy from Chitradurga to Bengaluru where Renukaswamy was thrashed leading to his death.
The body of Renukaswamy was dumped on the roadside under Kamakshipalya police station limits in Bengaluru city before police discovered the body to initiate an investigation. The investigation pointed to the role of the actor.
