Karnataka ex-DGP stabbed to death at home

Retired Director General (DG) and Inspector General of Police Om Prakash (68) was found dead in a pool of blood at his residence in HSR Layout of Bengaluru city on Sunday evening.

Bengaluru: Karnataka former director general of police Om Prakash, 68, was found stabbed in his home in the upscale HSR Layout on Sunday afternoon, police said. His wife Pallavi called the police about the murder.

Patrolling officers from the Hoysala unit arrived at the residence at around 4.30 pm and discovered Prakash’s body in a pool of blood in the ground floor of the three-storey residence. Investigators believe the killing — carried out with a sharp weapon — occurred between 2 pm and 4 pm.

His wife, Pallavi, and daughter were inside the house and have been detained for questioning. The couple’s son is expected to file a formal complaint shortly. No arrests have been made.

Prakash, a Bihar native and 1981 batch IPS officer and Karnataka DGP from 2015 until his retirement in 2017, was reportedly embroiled in a family dispute over property.

Reports stated that the retired DGP had expressed concerns about threats to his life to some close associates. Police suspect the involvement of close family members in the incident.

“Preliminary inquiries point to internal issues,” said additional commissioner of police Vikas Kumar, adding that an FIR will be registered following which a detailed probe would be conduct. The body was sent for the post-mortem examination.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot immediately upon receiving the information.
