A fire was noticed at the bar on Monday when some customers were present for lunch. Immediately after noticing the fire, some alert customers managed to escape and some others with minor injuries before the raging fire devastated the bar. However, workers Sahil and Prakash were at the kitchen and were trapped before they were found charred to death in the fire incident.

Initially, sources attributed the fire to a short circuit while investigations continue. Locals in the vicinity of the bar allege the rooftop bar was covered with dry straw and upon short circuit the dry straw caught fire and spread to other parts of the building in no time. The space was narrow and the bar had highly decorative items.

Minister of Urban Development Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah visited the spot and told reporters the Maara Restobar had not “permission” which was run at the second floor and the menu at the bar clearly mentioned to serve liquor. The owner clearly violated the rules.

Yathindra sought action against the Excise Department Commissioner since Excise officials turned blind to the bar operating without license. “I have asked Deputy Commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy to submit a report to place Excise DC under suspension,” he said.
