Sanchari Cauvery Initiative: BWSSB Allows Apartments to Order Bulk Water Supply

Bengaluru: A board meeting of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) decided to extend its flagship “Sanchari Cauvery” initiative to allow residents in apartment complexes to bulk bookings to order certified drinking water through tankers online.

The Sanchari Cauvery initiative launched on May 9 is the country's first technology-enabled water tanker project to deliver certified drinking water through online bookings through mobile app/website. The certified drinking water is delivered to the consumers doorsteps at affordable tankers to eliminate private tankers from exorbitant charges.
After the meeting, BWSSB Chairman Dr Ram Prasad Manohar said the move to allow bulk bookings for certified drinking water online is to counter dependency on private tankers who draw water from bore-wells resulting in fast depletion of groundwater.
“Many apartment complexes, especially on the city outskirts, are heavily dependent on groundwater. These residents rely on private tankers, many of which draw water from borewells, resulting in fast depletion of groundwater,” said the Chairman.
However, the bulk bookings are available on first come, first serve basis, minimum one-month advance payment required, bulk bookings ensure uninterrupted supply and annual booking option available.
On the bulk bookings for apartment complexes, the Chairman said ‘Extending the service to apartment complexes is a crucial step in reducing pressure on groundwater reserves.”
Dr Manohar asked the residents to make use of bulk bookings and ensure access to quality-certified drinking water and stated BWSSB is evolving into a citizen-centric organization with a long-term vision for water sustainability.
