Ramya Alleges Life Threat From Darshan’s Fans, Lodges Complaint

Ramya alleged that some fans of actor Darshan sent scandalous, ghastly, and obnoxious messages to her various social media accounts.

Bengaluru: Former Lok Sabha member and actor Ramya on Monday lodged a complaint with Bengaluru police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh against fans of actor Darshan, accusing them of using obscene language in online posts that, she said, affected her modesty as a woman. She also expressed fears that the posts posed a direct “threat to my life.”

In the complaint, she stated that, as a former elected representative and a public-spirited person, she had shared news reports about Supreme Court proceedings related to actor Darshan’s bail plea. Darshan is accused of the murder of Renukaswamy, a resident of Chitradurga in Karnataka, and is currently out on bail.

Ramya alleged that some fans of actor Darshan sent scandalous, ghastly, and obnoxious messages to her various social media accounts. She described the messages as “disgusting and misogynistic” and stated they were in response to her sharing updates on the Supreme Court proceedings in Darshan’s bail case.

She appealed to the police commissioner to initiate action against the perpetrators and take appropriate legal steps against them.

The chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Women, in a letter to the police commissioner, urged him to initiate steps to block the abusive content and take action against those responsible.

Members of the Film Industry for Rights and Equality (FIRE) also urged home minister Dr G. Parameshwar to take immediate and appropriate action against those responsible for the online abuse. FIRE stated that it stands in solidarity with the actor in her fight against the misogynistic and obscene trolling directed at her on social media.
