Bengaluru: A juvenile, a resident of Kotakurd village of Rajasthan and in conflict with law has been apprehended by Hebbagodi police attached to Electronics City police of Bengaluru on charge of a fake facebook account in the name of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Electronics City Division, Bengaluru city M. Narayan, using his photograph.
Through the fake account, police said the juvenile sent friend requests to his acquaintances and members of the public, following which he allegedly collected money from them under various pretexts.
During the course of investigation, the police said in a release, they conducted enquiries and busted an organised network operating from Kotkurd in Rajasthan. On August 24, police served a notice on the parents of the juvenile before he was taken into custody for enquiry. During the interrogation, the accused juvenile admitted to the offence along with a few associates.
He told the police he and his associates created fake facebook accounts in the name of several IAS/IPS officers across the country and collected money by impersonating them.
Police recovered Rs 2 lakh in cash from the juvenile and the recovered money was part of the money fraudulently obtained through fake facebook accounts. Efforts are on to trace others involved in the offense. The juvenile was sent to a Rehabilitation Centre in Devanahalli of Bengaluru Rural district. Investigations are on.
