Quarrel on Fishing Boat Ends in Murder in Udupi

According to the police, Govindaraj and Abhishek quarreled while they were on a boat at the wharf in Padukere on the night of August 24. The altercation reportedly continued into the early hours of Tuesday

Udupi: A quarrel on a fishing boat at the Padukere wharf ended in murder in the early hours of Tuesday. Within hours, Malpe police caught the suspected accused as he was allegedly trying to flee by train.

According to the police, Govindaraj and Abhishek quarreled while they were on a boat at the wharf in Padukere on the night of August 24. The altercation reportedly continued into the early hours of Tuesday, when Govindaraj allegedly attacked Abhishek, killing him, and fled the spot.

The incident came to light early on Tuesday, following which the Malpe police launched an immediate search for the accused.

Malpe Police Station Sub-Inspector (Law and Order) Anil Kumar D, accompanied by Head Constable Adarsh and Police Constable Kubera, who learnt that Govinda was heading towards the railway station, reportedly with plans to travel either towards Hyderabad or Mumbai, intercepted him and took him into custody before he could leave the area.

Police said their preliminary inquiry revealed that the accused Govindaraj hails from Arakere of Devadurga Taluk in Raichur district. He has been away from home for nearly 15 years and has been working in Mumbai, Hyderabad and other places during this period.

Malpe police have registered a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Govindaraj has been taken into custody, and further investigation is in progress.
