Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accuses BJP of undermining Constitution, democratic values

Belagavi: Congress leader and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a strong attack on the BJP government, accusing it of undermining the Constitution and democratic values during the 'Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan rally' in Belagavi on Sunday.

Criticizing the BJP’s ideology, Priyanka said, "This government has disrespected the Constitution. No previous government, irrespective of party, has ever seen its Home Minister face humiliation in Parliament, nor has any minister spoken of changing the Constitution as this one has." She accused BJP leaders of undermining the ideals of Dr. BR Ambedkar, calling him the "messiah of the oppressed."

She urged people to recognize and resist those attempting to alter the Constitution for political gain. "Identify those who are trying to change the Constitution for their own benefits. Decide that you will not allow any harm to it. We cannot tolerate the insult of the Constitution, Ambedkar, or the people of this country. Just as the Constitution protects you, it is your duty to protect the Constitution."

Priyanka pointed to BJP's policies, alleging that they are against social justice and reservation. "The first thing they did after coming to power was form a commission to review the Constitution. They want to dilute reservations, weaken labor laws, and take away the strength of institutions like the Election Commission and the judiciary," she said.

She accused the BJP of favoring big industrialists like Adani and Ambani at the expense of ordinary citizens. "Adani has been handed the country's assets while farmers are pushed into debt and suicide. Petrol and diesel prices are skyrocketing, GST is being imposed on essentials, and farmers and small businesses are left struggling," she said.

Priyanka also took a dig at the government’s handling of social welfare, contrasting it with Congress's policies in Karnataka. "While Congress provides 200 units of free electricity, BJP-run states burden people with inflated bills and privatized services," she said, adding that privatization is eroding job reservations and increasing inequality.

Priyanka assured the crowd of Congress’s commitment, saying, "Every leader here is dedicated to you, the country, and the Constitution. Rahul Gandhi was supposed to come here but could not due to health issues. But he fights for the Constitution every day, ready to sacrifice everything for this cause. That is why this government is scared of Rahul Gandhi. Whenever he stands to speak the truth, the government tries to silence him. But Rahul is not afraid. Our principles are rooted in truth and courage, not fear."

She contrasted Congress’s values with those of the BJP and its ideological roots. "Our tradition is one of sacrifice for the nation, not one of writing apology letters to the British. Fight for your rights against a government that is weakening them," she said.

Priyanka urged people to protect the Constitution. "This is your Constitution, your protection. Don’t let it be diluted by those who oppose its ideals and values," she said.

She highlighted Belagavi's historical significance in India's freedom movement, calling it a "sacred land."

She noted that Lokmanya Tilak’s Home Rule League began here, and Gandhiji served as Congress president for the first time 100 years ago in this very place.

"This land reflects the democratic and equal values that formed the foundation of our independence struggle," she said.
