Priyank Kharge Slams L&T Over Delays in Kalaburagi Water Project

Kalaburagi: Frustrated by the slow pace of the much-awaited 24x7 drinking water project in Kalaburagi, Minister Priyank Kharge on Tuesday pulled up L&T officials and directed City Corporation Commission to prepare a report recommending that the company be blacklisted for its poor performance.

Kharge, who is also the district in-charge minister, was reviewing the project at a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday.

Expressing his anger over the delay, he questioned why the City Corporation and KUIDFC engineers had failed to ensure timely completion of the work.

“The government is spending thousands of crores to give people clean drinking water. But if the work drags on like this, what are the officials doing? There are hardly 170 to 300 workers on site, when thousands should have been deployed. It is not acceptable for engineers to just sit back and blame L&T,” he said.

Kharge warned officials that such negligence would not be tolerated and instructed the Commissioner to issue notices to those responsible.

He also demanded a detailed report covering the notices issued to the company so far, disciplinary action taken, and the responsibilities given to engineers.

Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharanprakash Patil also added his voice, saying there were complaints of sewage water from city drains entering the Saradagi barrage and stressed the need to act quickly to prevent contamination.
