Only 2 Vande Mataram Stanzas at Govt Event, Karnataka BJP MLA Walks Out
As the national song stopped after reciting two paragraphs, the MLA demanded that the full song be played but the administration went by state government's directive
Shivamogga: A BJP MLA has walked out of a government programme here protesting against the rendition of only two stanza of Vande Mataram instead of the full length of the national song.
The Shivamogga district administration had hosted a programme on the occasion of International Democracy Day on Tuesday where the national song was played.
Shivamogga MLA S N Channabasappa was presiding over the function, which was organised at the Dr B R Ambedkar Bhavan.
Senior officers of the district including the Deputy Commissioner of Shivamogga attended it.

In January, the Union Home Ministry directed that all 6 stanzas of Vande Mataram be sung before the National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana, when both are played together. The directive was issued as the Centre marked the 150th year of Vande Mataram.
However, the Congress-led Karnataka government issued an order on September 10, 2026, restricting the singing of Vande Mataram to its first two stanzas at routine state functions, in line to the 1937 Congress Working Committee decision taken by Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose and Jawaharlal Nehru, which is now in contradiction to the new union government guidelines.
