BENGALURU: Based on the retired High Court Judge Nagamohan Das Inquiry Commission report constituted by the Congress led State Government to probe 40 percent commission charge levelled by members of Karnataka Contractors Association against the previous rule of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka (2019 to 2023), the cabinet meeting on Friday decided to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to gather more details on alleged ‘commission” charge, throw more light on works carried out and also on “corruption.”

Briefing media persons, Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs H.K. Patil stated Nagamohan Das' report “confirmed” about the “corruption” in 40 percent “commission’ allegations against the previous State Government led by BJP by the Contractors Association.

Citing that he could not go into the report in detail since it was submitted an hour-and-a-half back, Patil said he could not point out in which works 40 percent commission has been proved in the Nagamohan Das report but stated Nagamohan Das report investigated complaints received against departments.

Patil said, Nagamohan Das Inquiry Commission dealt in detail 1,729 works out of 3 lakh works taking into consideration factors such as total cost of the project, money released, total work done among various aspects.

It was also found meddling by political leaders/administrative officers in tender processes in the Nagamohan Das report including some excess payments done. The cabinet meeting took a serious view of the Nagamohan Das report before a decision was taken to constitute a SIT which will not only be Police SIT but comprise technical experts and experts in relevant fields.

The SIT, he said, will be given a deadline of two-months to come out with suggestions/ actions to be initiated against erring persons. In reply to a query on the deadline given to SIT, Patil said "It all depends on the use of technology and methodology in its investigation.”
