No Tungabhadra Water for Kharif Irrigation Due to Poor Inflows, Says KNNL

KNNL said the reservoir has not received adequate inflows due to deficient rainfall across the Tungabhadra command area due to which the available water was insufficient to support irrigation.

Koppal:With poor rainfall affecting inflows into the Tungabhadra reservoir, the Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Limited has announced that it would not be possible to release water through the right bank and left bank canals for irrigation during the ongoing kharif season.

In a public notice, the KNNL said the reservoir has not received adequate inflows due to deficient rainfall across the Tungabhadra command area due to which the available water was insufficient to support irrigation.

It stated that the state government had directed that the water stored in the reservoir be reserved for drinking water purposes. Farmers in the command area have therefore been urged to cooperate. In the the event of adequate inflows subsequently and the reservoir filling up, the irrigation advisory committee would meet to decide on the release of water for irrigation.
