Nepal Floods: Dharwad Family Hopeful of Safe Return of Kailash Pilgrim
Rakesh had completed the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage two days ago. He had begun his return journey and was to return to Nepal on Wednesday.
Dharwad: The family of Rakesh Nayak is anxiously waiting for information about his whereabouts after he became uncontactable after the flood while returning from the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
Rakesh, who basically hails from CB Nagar of Dharwad, and has been living in Australia for about 10 years and works there as a software engineer, had travelled to India from Australia on August 12 to undertake the pilgrimage. He travelled to Delhi and joined a group of 77 devotees associated with the Isha Foundation. He was part of the S3 batch of the group.
Rakesh had completed the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage two days ago. He had begun his return journey and was to return to Nepal on Wednesday.
According to his family, Rakesh spoke to them around 4 am on Wednesday and told them that his pilgrimage had gone well.
He was expected to travel to Kathmandu later in the day, from where he was to take a flight to Delhi before continuing his journey to Australia.
However, the family lost contact with him after the flood.
The family later learnt that members of the S3 group were at the immigration centre when the region was affected by the floods. They have since been trying to establish contact with Rakesh and obtain information about the safety of the other members of the group.
The family has contacted the Isha Foundation and the Indian Embassy seeking information.
“We have also approached the government authorities and Union minister Pralhad Joshi. They have assured all help,” Rakesh’s parents Shivaprasad and Pramila said.
They are confident that he is safe and will return home.
