Nepal Disaster: Kharge Urges Centre to Support Stranded Indians, Victims’ Families

Kalaburagi: AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday urged the Centre to extend all possible assistance to Indians stranded in Nepal following the floods and provide relief to the families of those who lost their lives in the disaster.

Speaking to reporters at Kalaburagi airport, Kharge said people from Karnataka as well as several other parts of the country had been caught in the floods in Nepal, with some losing their lives.

“I am writing to the Prime Minister and will urge him to ensure that those stranded in Nepal are provided all possible assistance and that relief is extended to the families of Indians who have lost their lives,” he said.

Kharge also urged the Centre to extend assistance to Nepal in dealing with the disaster, noting that a large number of Indians, particularly pilgrims, regularly visit the neighbouring country.

“It is unfortunate that such an incident has occurred. We could not prevent a natural disaster, but when such a major calamity strikes, everyone must join hands,” Kharge said.

He called for coordinated efforts involving the Indian and Nepalese governments and people of both countries to deal with the situation and provide relief to those affected.

Kharge said he would also raise these concerns in his letter to the Prime Minister.
