Mysuru, Hassan To Be Satellite Flying Training Bases In Karnataka
The Deputy Chief Minister reviewed the School’s activities and he pointed to the Government Flying Training School established in 1940 has trained thousands of pilots over the years.
BENGALURU: Establishing satellite training bases in Mysuru and Hassan is being examined by the State Government to operate from the Government Flying School at Jakkur of Bengaluru, said Deputy Chief Minister Dr G. Parameshwar.
He said “Mysuru has the required facilities to establish a satellite training base. Aircrafts taking off from Jakkur can land in Mysuru and return. This training procedure is known as touch and go procedure,” he said. The Deputy Chief Minister reviewed the School’s activities and he pointed to the Government Flying Training School established in 1940 has trained thousands of pilots over the years. Many trained pilots from Jakkur School are working with Air India and other airlines.
“We also intend to establish a Civil Aircraft Maintenance Academy,” Parameshwara said and disclosed “The name of Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports will undergo a change if cabinet approves the proposal to be submitted to State Government to rename it as Department of Sports, Youth Empowerment and Civil Aviation.”
“A proposal has been submitted to purchase two additional aircrafts in coming days for Jakkur School to the existing 5 aircrafts. Two additional aircrafts will be procured once the approval is granted,” he said and expressed happiness over the Government Flying School at Jakkur licence having been renewed by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for 5 years.
Parameshwara said “Once the additional aircrafts get approval, a trainee must complete 40 hours of flying to obtain a Private Pilot Licence and 180 hours to qualify for a Commercial Pilot Licence” and termed “The Government Flying School, Jakkur of imparting necessary training to meet these requirements.”
The fee for Private Pilot Licence (PPL) training is Rs 10 lakh for candidates belonging to Karnataka and it is Rs 15 lakh for candidates outside the State, he said and stated training for Commercial Pilot Licence costs Rs 37 lakh for Karnataka candidates and the fee is Rs 42 lakh for outside State candidates.
The existing runway at Jakkur is 954 meters long and a proposal has been prepared to acquire 10 acres to extend it by another 160-meters, he said.
