Moral policing: Minor boy assaulted for befriending girl from a different community

According to police, two boys and two girls, all minors and classmates from the same school, had gone to Manipal and were returning home by bus when the incident occurred.

Udupi: In a moral policing incident, a minor boy was assaulted for allegedly being with a girl from a different community.

While the incident occurred on April 8, a case was filed on April 10.

Udupi district SP said that an FIR was registered at Kundapur Town Police Station on April 10 under BNS Sections 126, 351, 352, and Sections 75 and section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.

According to police, two boys and two girls, all minors and classmates from the same school, had gone to Manipal and were returning home by bus when the incident occurred. A man sitting at the rear of the bus was noticing the boys and girls. When a boy and a girl got down from the bus the man reportedly followed them and objected to the boy and girl, who belonged to different communities, traveling together. He also allegedly assaulted the boy.

Following a complaint the Police have arrested the accused and produced him before court.

On Wednesday, the mother of one of the girls visited the Kundapur Town Police Station, accompanied by Byndoor MLA and his supporters, wanting the police to take action against the minor boy. However, police clarified that no FIR can be registered against a minor in this case.
