Minister Declines To Apologise To Royal Family Over His Statement That ‘Palace Lands Belongs To State Government’
“I haven’t said anything that would harm the reputation of the erstwhile Mysore royal family,” Yathindra said.

Bengaluru: “We are committed to (go by) Constitution in a democratic set-up.
We took oath as Ministers/MLAs as per Constitution,” said Minister of Urban Development and Mysuru district incharge Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah on Wednesday while ruling out tendering an apology to Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, a member of erstwhile Mysore Royal family.
State Bharatiya Janata Party president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra demanded an apology from Yathindra over his comment that the land on which Mysore Palace stands belongs to the State Government.
It may be recalled here Pramoda Devei Wadiyar expressed her displeasure over the police officers behaviour on jumbo savari day (October 21) and termed the police officers as “lacking discipline” among others.
Speaking to reporters, Yathindra said “I haven’t said anything that would harm the reputation of the erstwhile Mysore royal family.
I only commented on a press release of Pramoda Devi Wadiyar that she would reconsider giving golden howdah, a property of the royal family for the conduct of jumbo savari during annual jumbo savari procession and to conduct golden howdah procession during annual Chamundeshwari chariot fest atop Chamundi Hill instead of jumbo savari.”
“It can’t be conducted in that way (as suggested by Pramoda Devi Wadiyar),” he said and wanted a discussion with the State Government to resolve any issue, if any, over the conduct of jumbo savari.”
“My conscience is clear,” said Yathindra and stated “As a Mysorean, I hold the royal family in high esteem particularly Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar for contributions made and his social commitment.
He is a champion of social justice.”
He termed the Nalwadi Krishnaraj Wadiyar as “an icon.”
