Maulana Terms Notification On Reciting Vande Mataram Against Islamic Beliefs, Wants It Withdrawn

While objecting to the recent notification by the Union Government to mandatorily recite verses of “Vande Mataram” poem in schools and officials’ functions, Maulana stated “Forceful imposition on Muslims is unacceptable”: Reports

BENGALURU: Maulana Imran Maqsood of Majlis-e-Imarat Shariya, Karnataka urged the Bharatiya Janata Party ruled Union Government to withdraw its recent notification to make reciting poem Vande Mataram mandatory in all schools and also in official programmers and the Maulana termed the notification against Islamic beliefs.

While objecting to the recent notification by the Union Government to mandatorily recite verses of “Vande Mataram” poem in schools and officials’ functions, Maulana stated “Forceful imposition on Muslims is unacceptable.”

“I appeal to all Muslims that Vande Matararam, made mandatory, cannot be recited,” Maulana said. “We have no objection if non-Muslim brothers sing/recite it but for Muslims, reciting the poem containing portions dedicated to (Hindu) Gods and Goddess is against the Islamic beliefs,” said the Maulana, stating such a thing is not permissible for them (Muslims).

In reference to the Vande Mataram, Maulana Imran Maqsood pointed to “The portions of the poem mentioning (Hindu) Gods/Goddess are in conflict with Islamic beliefs which prohibit worship of anyone other than Allah.”

Maulana said the Union Government should reconsider its notification considering religious sensitivities involved in it and clarified the community does not have opposition to patriotic expressions.

“We recite the National Anthem with patriotism and have no hesitation in reciting the National Anthem. The National Anthem is taught in schools and all Muslims give great respect for the National Anthem- Jana Gana Mana,” he said.
