Ballari: Acting on a suo motu case registered by the Karnataka Lokayukta regarding recent maternal deaths in Ballari, the Ballari district Lokayukta Police officials led by SP Siddaraju C conducted searches in three locations and seized documents and collected samples of the suspected fluid on Saturday.
In the past one month, five maternal deaths were reported in Ballari, all involving women who had undergone cesarean sections at the Ballari Government Hospital in November.
The Lokayukta's district team, led by the SP Siddaraju C, inspected the Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), while the DySP’s team visited the District Medicine Warehouse, and the Inspector led an inspection at the District Hospital.
Officials have frozen the case sheets of the victims to prevent any manipulation. Samples of the suspected intravenous fluid, believed to have caused the deaths, were also collected.
Though health department officials had already halted the use of the fluid, the Lokayukta Police have sent the collected samples for expert testing.
The samples and documents will be analyzed, and a comprehensive report will be submitted to the Lokayukta, as the case is under Lokayukta investigation.
