Mangaluru traffic police inspector, staff caught accepting bribe

In a significant operation, Lokayukta police caught Mangaluru North Traffic Police Station Inspector Mohammed Shariff and staff member Praveen Naik red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000.

The incident unfolded after a complainant approached the Lokayukta, alleging that the officers demanded a bribe for releasing a scooter from police custody despite a court order authorizing its release.

According to Lokayukta officials, Inspector Shariff initially demanded Rs 5,000 but reduced the amount to Rs 3,000 after the complainant negotiated. The complainant, frustrated by the unlawful demand, reported the matter to the Lokayukta police.

A trap was laid, and the officers were caught accepting the bribe. Both Inspector Shariff and staff member Praveen Naik have been taken into custody, and further investigations are underway.
