Mangaluru Man Shocked To Find Name Listed As Dead In Voter Roll Post-SIR, Officials Assure Restoration

Sixty-one-year-old Joseph Donald Rego of Bejai in Mangaluru, who has been residing in the address since over a decade, said he was shocked to see his name shown as that of a deceased voter when he checked the electoral roll on August 26.

Mangaluru: A Mangaluru resident was in for a shock when he checked the draft electoral roll post SIR and found that he had been marked as dead, despite being alive and having voted in the city during the previous two elections in 2023 and 2024.
Sixty-one-year-old Donald Joseph Rego of Bejai in Mangaluru, who has been residing in the address since over a decade, said he was shocked to see his name shown as that of a deceased voter when he checked the electoral roll on August 26. He said no death certificate had been issued in his name and no such certificate was given to the authorities during SIR. He had no idea how such an entry had been made.
“I had participated in the SIR process. I had submitted the form to the booth-level officer (BLO) about a month ago and it had been collected by the official,” he added.

Meanwhile Dakshina Kannada Additional DC K Raju said that steps have been to include the name of Rego in the final SIR electoral roll.
“I had participated in the SIR process. I had submitted the form to the booth-level officer (BLO) about a month ago and it had been collected by the official,” he added.
