Man Held For Posing As Property Owner, Selling Land At Belagavi Sub-Registrar Office
Police said Desai allegedly appeared at the Sub-Registrar's Office pretending to be the complainant's uncle, who was the original owner of the property.
Belagavi: A 62-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly impersonating the owner of a property and fraudulently registering its sale deed at the Sub-Registrar's Office in Belagavi.
The accused, Lakhan Arjun Desai, a resident of Siddeshwar Galli in Peeranwadi, was arrested in connection with a cheating and forgery case registered at the Market Police Station following a complaint by Rafiq Imam Shahapurkar (57) of Uchagaon.
According to the police, on January 10 Rafiq had alleged that his family's property was sold without their knowledge. During the investigation, police examined the relevant records and identified Desai as the accused.
Police said Desai allegedly appeared at the Sub-Registrar's Office pretending to be the complainant's uncle, who was the original owner of the property. He allegedly got his photograph taken through the office webcam, affixed his thumb impression and completed the registration formalities before executing the sale deed in favour of another person.
Police said the complainant and his relatives were cheated through the fraudulent property registration.
Desai was arrested on Tuesday and produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
The accused was traced by a team from the Market Police Station led by Police Inspector JM Kalimirchi and PSI HL Kerur. City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase appreciated the team for solving the case.
