Low-Flying NSG Helicopter Draws Attention During Mangaluru Drill

The helicopter was deployed as part of the NSG's Counter Terrorist Exercise, carried out at various locations in Mangaluru from July 22 to 25 to assess and strengthen security preparedness.

Mangaluru: A military helicopter flying unusually low over several parts of Mangaluru on Thursday left many people looking skyward, with curious onlookers stepping out of their homes and offices to catch a glimpse of the aircraft.

From morning onwards, the helicopter was seen circling different parts of the city, prompting people to stop along roadsides, pull out their mobile phones and record videos. At several locations, residents gathered on terraces and balconies, while others posed for selfies with the helicopter in the background. Videos and photographs of the aircraft quickly flooded social media platforms, particularly Instagram and WhatsApp.

The helicopter was deployed as part of the NSG's Counter Terrorist Exercise, carried out at various locations in Mangaluru from July 22 to 25 to assess and strengthen security preparedness.

Among the videos circulating online were clips of NSG personnel boarding the helicopter at a ground and the aircraft hovering over an apartment complex near Bavutagudda during the exercise.

The presence of the helicopter became one of the day's biggest talking points.

The district administration has urged the public not to be alarmed by the security drill and to cooperate with officials during the exercise. Citizens have been requested to follow traffic diversions and other instructions issued by security personnel, as temporary movement restrictions may be enforced at some locations.

The administration has also appealed to people not to believe or circulate rumours related to the exercise and to extend full cooperation to the district administration and the police until the four-day drill concludes.
