Bengaluru: Kannada star actor Darshan Thoogudeepa was on Tuesday arrested by Kamakshipalya police of Bengaluru city in connection with a murder case which alleged to have taken place over ‘derogatory’ posts on a social networking site by the victim identified as Renuka Swamy (33) against actor’s wife. Along with the actor, more than 10 arrests have been made by the police.

Bengaluru City Commissioner of Police B. Dayanand told reporters that the alleged murder, as the preliminary investigation, has taken place over 'derogatory' posts by the victim against the actor's wife. The alleged murder took place on Sunday after an unknown body of a male was discovered (under Kamakshipalya police limits) and his identity was established by the police.

Police secured Darshan in Mysuru district on Tuesday and ferried him to Kamakshipalya police where he was queried over the murder of Renuka Swamy, who worked in a pharmaceutical store in Chitradurga town, about 300 km from Bengaluru city.

It is said that Darshan was furious after ‘derogatory’ posts by Renukaswamy against his wife came to his notice. An enraged Darshan, directed his follower Raghavendra, who is also the President of Darshan Fans Association, Chitradurga district, to bring Renukaswamy to Bengaluru city.

Ferried from Chitradurga, Renukaswamy was produced before the actor in Rajarajeshwari Nagar of Bengaluru city where he was allegedly assaulted by Darshan and his associates. Coming under attack, the victim is said to have succumbed to his injuries. Later, the body of Renuka Swamy was dumped in a trash pile in Sumanahalli near Pete Chinnappa road allegedly by associates of Darshan.

The murder of Renukaswamy came to light after a security guard identified as Keval Ram Dorji at an apartment in Sumanahalli of Bengaluru city on June 9 (Sunday) this year brought to the notice of Kamakshipalya police over an unidentified body dumped in a thrash.

The security guard stated that he came across the body on June 9 at around 8 am with injuries on his face and head. Police inspected the spot and a case was registered. Police verified various CCTV footage and gathered details on the persons involved in dumping of the body before they were secured.

During questioning, the accused persons, residents of Giri Nagar in Bengaluru city, are said to have pointed their fingers at actor Darshan on the alleged murder of Renuka Swamy which led to the actor's arrest. His friend Pavithra Gowda was also arrested by Annapoorna Nagar police in connection with the alleged murder of Renuka Swamy.

Minister for Home Dr G. Parameshwar stated that Darshan has been arrested by the police based on accused persons involved in the alleged murder. The actor is taken into custody for investigation.

Kashinath, father of victim Renuka Swamy, said he last spoke to his son on Saturday and hoped that he would return back. Advocate representing Darshan, Narayana Swamy said police questioned Darshan on suspicion.
